On our Saturday training schedules, you’ll see that we have Decathlon badge sessions on 16-Feb and 2-Mar.

The Sportshall Primary Decathlon consists (unsurprisingly) of 10 events – your child will have had the opportunity to practice these over recent weeks. On these two dates, our athletes will be given a score card, which they will keep with them as they rotate around these ten events in small groups.

As they complete each event, their best score, distance or time will be added to the card. These translate into points, using the standardised scoring system. The points are added up and the overall score gives their level, which translates into a badge and certificate, presented at the end of the season.

This all takes place during our normal session times at City Academy. And although we’re talking about ‘testing’, there’s absolutely no pressure involved and it’s like any other training day – if a little busy! There’s no competition against each other, simply the opportunity to see their improvement from last year or set a new mark to progress from.

With ten events to manage and record for each child, we need a lot of parent help to be able to deliver the Decathlon sessions, so please be prepared to step up and help our coaches deliver this opportunity for your children.

We will need help to set up the equipment ready for a prompt 9.

15am start. If we don’t have enough volunteers we simply won’t be able to run these sessions.

You’ll appreciate there’s a lot to get through so please ensure you arrive in good time. If you can’t make it on 16-Feb, there’s another chance to complete the events at our Decathlon session on 2-Mar – if you come to both sessions, we’ll take the best score for each event to calculate your levels. (We’ll also incorporate any scores you may have gathered at the Thursday Sportshall sessions if your child also does those.)
