CoNAC’s Joe Skipper made the long trip to the US to compete in the North American Ironman Championships held in Texas on the 14th May.
The Ironman Triathlon is made up of a 2.
4 mile swim, a 112 mile cycle ride culminating in a run over the full marathon distance 26.
2 miles.
The event is not for the faint-hearted and Joe proved that he was in it to give his all. Competing in hot and humid conditions, he completed the swim in 55min 09secs then took to the bike, finishing the 112 mile stint in an excellent 4hrs 10min 07secs. The final discipline, the marathon, was covered in 3hrs 04min 35secs giving him a total time including transitions of 8hrs 16mins 26secs.
His super-human effort was rewarded with a fantastic second place and a cash prize of ,000.
In his post race statement a delighted Joe said while the pay day was impressive it was also a life saver as it was thanks to his supportive parents that he was able make the trip to Texas, so he can now repay his debt to them. Also it has prevented him from having to join the dole queue on his return to the UK!
Joe’s discipline to his sport is without question and his success in Texas is richly deserved. He is now placed 6th on the UK all time ranking list.
