City of Norwich AC was formed on 1 October 1996 by the amalgamation of Duke Street RC and Norfolk Olympiads AC. The CoNAC vest colourway was first proposed following a conversation between Pauline Ash and me at the National XC at the Newark showground in Feb or March 1996.
At the time we were working towards creating CoNAC on 1 Oct 1996. We were watching the races together and noticed how the colours of the vests of most of the clubs taking part were much of a muchness – many reds, blues, blacks, all very drab. We concluded that CoNAC would need something that was striking and would literally stand out in the crowd.
The red and yellow came from the colours of Norfolk Olympiads and Duke Street RC and the black pinstripe was added to provide a link to the black shorts we wanted everyone to wear.
