ROAD RUNNING

IMPROVE PERFORMANCE, MAKE FRIENDS,
GET MOTIVATED

Our Road Running section welcomes runners of all abilities; from beginners to international standard athletes, and everyone in between.

You may want to take part in races or simply run for fitness and enjoyment. Or perhaps you’re just looking for an opportunity to run with a group of other like-minded people.

You are very welcome to come and try us for a few weeks without obligation as a trial member, but please contact us before your first session so we know to look out for you. And when you’ve decided that you’re right for us and we’re right for you, then it’s time to join.

TRAINING SESSIONS

Our experienced coaches work together to provide a wide range of training options designed to meet the needs of the individual. In addition to the training sessions listed below, our coaches can assist you in developing a full programme to improve your fitness and meet your own running goals.

WHERE AND WHEN DO WE MEET?

Our weekday road running sessions are based at Eaton Park Community Centre (South Park Avenue, Norwich, NR4 7AZ), and we meet on Mondays (excluding bank holidays) and Thursdays from 6:15pm. The sessions start with a briefing at 6:30pm.

Mondays are when we meet for a run, with Thursday evenings being effort-based sessions.

During the darker months we use the road network close to Eaton Park for these sessions, while in the lighter months we take advantage of the local parks and open spaces.

TRAINING GROUPS

We have several groups of varying abilities to help you develop your running. The Monday and Thursday sessions are tailored to the needs of each group.

Improvers
When you can run 5k in around 30 minutes then you’re ready to run with this group. On Monday evenings we have three routes to choose from, typically 3½ miles, 4½ miles and 8-9 miles. Newcomers are always supported by experienced runners.

Intermediate Group
Once you have built a good base of running you will be ready to start weekly effort sessions and the intermediate group is a good place to start. The sessions are designed to help develop speed and speed endurance, and prepare for race day.

Advanced Group
This group is for experienced athletes who are currently capable of around 20 minutes for 5k or quicker and who want to take their running to the next level. Monday evenings comprise a series of steady and tempo runs, with effort sessions on Thursday evenings.

NORFOLK ROAD RACE FIXTURES

These are events with road race licences which take place in Norfolk under the auspices of either UK Athletics (UKA) or the Association of Running Clubs (ARC).

Each year, between ten and fourteen races in the county of Norfolk are denoted as Sportlink Grand Prix Series events and four races are denoted as Norfolk County Championship events.
