A quick introduction to our track and field leagues

CoNAC athletes compete in four different leagues currently:

East Anglian League (EAL)

The East Anglian League (EAL) is friendly, reasonably local and slightly less competitive than some of the other leagues.  It provides a good opportunity for athletes who are less experienced, or are trying new events or are returning from injury.

Teams compete both within their age group and for an overall trophy.  The age groups are:

  • Men: U11, U13, U15, U17, senior
  • Women: U11, U13, U15, combined U17 and senior.

At the end of the season the top 8 clubs in each age group qualify for a league final.

Eastern Young Athletes League (EYAL)

The EYAL is a competitive league which provides an opportunity to compete against some of the best young athletes in the eastern region.  Twenty-seven clubs take part in the league and it covers a bigger geographical area than the EAL so there is more travel involved to get to away matches.  At the end of the year the top six clubs take part in the Trophy Final and the next six clubs take part in the Plate Final.  Our aim is to make the Trophy Final in 2017.

Teams compete both within their age group and for an overall trophy.  The age groups are:

  • Boys: U13, U15, U17
  • Girls: U13, U15, U17

The EYAL is a highly competitive league and so there will be more emphasis on performance for team selection.

Southern Athletics League (SAL)

The SAL is highly competitive and involves clubs from all over the South of England. Unfortunately, we were relegated from the Premier Division in 2016 so will be competing in Division 2 East during 2017.  The aim is to achieve promotion back to Division 1.

This league is for U20, U23, Senior and Masters athletes.  U17s are permitted to compete but must use implements/distances for the U20 age group.  We will only include U17s in the CoNAC team on their coach’s recommendation, and with the agreement of the athlete and their parent or guardian.

Youth Development League (YDL)

The YDL is highly competitive and involves clubs from all over the South of England. CoNAC competes as part of a composite Team Norfolk which involves athletes from four other local clubs.  In 2016 we won promotion, so are competing in Southern Division 1 in 2017.  The aim will be to finish in the top 4 and compete in the National Finals.

Only athletes in the U17 and U20 age groups compete in this league and it offers the opportunity to compete against some of the best athletes in the Southern Region.
