Long serving club member Jonny Quint makes his marathon début
Following a business trip to Boston, Jonny thought, before travelling home and as he would be acclimatised, he would pop down to New York and participate in the marathon. Jonny, a former 800m athlete with a personal best of 1.53.50 achieved, when placed 4th in the English Schools T&F Championships in 1995, has over recent time completed many miles in preparation for the marathon.
On tracking his race progress, via the wonders of modern communication, it was evident that all was going well. So much so, that he eased off mid-race thinking he was going too quickly! Such is his respect for the marathon distance! However, blowing caution to the wind in the final miles he was delighted to post a finishing time of 2hrs 44.45mins, the 5th Brit to finish plus the added bonus of finishing in a high 183rd position. Nearly 50000 completed the race!
Not a bad marathon début for a former track athlete! Having said former track runner, will he now make a return to the track in 2017? Watch this space!
