South of England Cross Country Relay Championships 2016

A report on a yet another great day of CoNAC team and individual achievements at Wormwood Scrubs Fields on Saturday 22nd OCtober

Under 13 Boys
First off for CoNAC were the U13Bs with Michael Langley leading out on the first leg. Michael brought the team in to the first changeover in a mid- pack position, closely followed by Jake Hart who ran well to finish just behind his team mate. Relishing his first run in the CoNAC A team this season, Isaac Bower passed a number of competitors to hand over in 16th place to Danny Adams, who moved swiftly through the field, recording the 4th fastest time in his age group on the day, bringing the team home in a creditable 11th position and just 2 seconds off an 8th place finish.

Under 13 Girls
Next up were the U13Gs led off by Grace Jermy and Niamh Hernon. Grace used her experience to work her way through the field before handing over to Maddie Short. Maddie produced a fine run for the team and shows a return to the form she enjoyed earlier in 2016. Niamh passed on to Olivia Sargent who showed a big improvement from last year’s event. Grace Forster took over on the final leg for the A team, with work to do to bring home a medal for the team. Grace found herself running against the fastest athlete of this age group, but un-phased, Grace secured a fine 3rd position, resulting in the first medals for this talented trio. The B team had Meg Willis making her debut for CoNAC on the country. She acquitted herself well in her first event.

Under 15 Girls
The final race for the CoNAC squad was the U15Gs who had 3 strong teams entered and held with high expectations, following earlier successes in the Autumn Road Relays in Bedford and Birmingham.
Lead runners on the first leg were Emma Hunter, Ellie Taylor and Sophie Peach. Emma ran a strategic race, moving through the field to hand over in an excellent 3rd position, Ellie followed closely behind to send of the B team off in 6th place, with Sophie continuing to improve in the longer distance events, close behind.
Meredith Winship took over for the A Team and with a mature run, braking clear in the later stages to hand over with a commanding lead. New CoNAC member, Olivia Miller showed great potential on her CoNAC debut, bringing the B team through to 3rd position, with Emma Ledward producing a mature run for the C team on leg 2.
On the final leg, Katie Goldsmith maintained a good lead on the second placed team, to record a well-deserved championship win for the CoNAC A team. Kate Willis ran the final leg for the B team, against some of the fastest athletes in the field, and provided this team with a super 6th place finish. The C team were anchored by Naryce Anderson who ran a good leg to bring the team home in an excellent 18th position.
