Back in December, we published our own club’s 2016 Track & Field Rankings, All Time Top 10’s and Club Records (with thanks again to Lorraine Brown for compiling).
The 2016 UK lists are now being published (which can be viewed on the Power of 10) and we see many of our seniors hitting the dizzy heights of the UK Top 30! As it’s that time of year, in time-honoured fashion, we thought extra recognition for those who really made their mark was most deserved! So without further ado, we honour:
Iona Lake back in Norfolk after a two year stint attending University in Virginia is placed 4th in the UK Ranking list for the 3000m Steeplechase. Her time of 10 mins .09.99 was achieved in Tallahassee despite carrying an injury from which she is still recovering! She is also ranked 3rd in the 1 mile with a time of 4 mins .36.11.
Dani Nimmock, a former English Schools Senior Girls 3000m Champion is now testing herself over the marathon distance. Still a relative novice at the event she is currently ranked 29th with a time 2 hrs 48.52 achieved in Frankfurt.
Arguably, the most impressive performance in 2016 came from Wesley Matsuka-Williams in the Triple Jump. To appear in the senior ranking as an Under 17 is fantastic and to be 18th overall is amazing! With a recorded 15.32m jump do we have the next Jonathan Edwards in our ranks!!
James McLachlan’s 7.43m effort in the Long Jump saw him placed 21st in the rankings. Under 23 Hammer thrower Callum Brown’s mighty throw of 67.05m places him 10th in the senior list.
Alex Dunbar now back on home turf from the US is placed 16th in the 10000m list. His time of 29 min 34.20 was achieved in Palo Alto. Not to be outdone Nick Earl competing down under last week produced a cracking run in Melbourne. He clocked an impressive 29 min 34.11 putting him one place ahead of Alex in the rankings in 15th. It is great that the Club has two sub 30 min 10000m athletes!
Mitch Goose now resident across the pond features in 16th place in the 3000m rankings having clocked 8.02.18.
Now that’s some new year’s honours list!
Congratulations to you all.
