City of Norwich AC was formed on 1 October 1996 upon the amalgamation of Duke Street Running Club and Norfolk Olympiads Athletic Club. As such it operated for just over twenty years as an unincorporated association.

At an Extraordinary General Meeting held on 29 October 2016 the members of City of Norwich AC voted unanimously:

  1. to dissolve City of Norwich AC as an unincorporated association on 31 December 2016 and
  2. to transfer the assets, liabilities and undertakings of the club to a charitable incorporated organisation (CIO) on 1 January 2017. The CIO was to be known as City of Norwich AC having been registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales on 12 July 2016, registration number 1168190.

The transfer duly took place and was enacted in accordance with transfer documention drawn up by our legal partners Leathes Prior.

As agreed with the Commission, our charitable objectives are:

“for the public benefit the advancement of amateur sport by promoting athletics for the benefit of the inhabitants of Norwich and the surrounding area; and the provision of facilities for the coaching and performance of athletics for the benefit of the inhabitants of Norwich and the surrounding area with the object of improving the condition of life of the said inhabitants”.

The Trustees of City of Norwich AC are Granville Courtnell, Hugh McGill, Richard Polley, Tony Bradfield, Jane Clarke, Louise Martin & Sarah Thomas (updated 5 December 2016).
